| Yup, thats me and one of the first pies I baked. |
These are ramblings about the foods I make, bake, or preserve for my family and friends and maybe a useful recipe or tip here and there. Are you hungry yet?
As a child I entertained myself with my mother's Betty Crocker Cookbook published in 1969...still my favorite edition.( to clarify, this cookbook is indeed older than I, by a smidge, but whatever) Much to her dismay, she would often come home to find me and the kitchen covered in flour and some barely edible version of a recipe proudly displayed on the kitchen table. However, this sparked my lifelong love of cooking, baking, and recipe experimentation.
My Lovely Grandma told me at a very young age that anyone who can read, can cook and thus began our lessons in both . Her kitchen in Monett, Missouri was my favorite place on earth, though now I am only able to visit it in memory. I spent a good part of my summers in that kitchen and it's her voice that I hear whenever I pickle something or can the gardens' bounty. She also believed that you could make soup out of anything, but that's another story.
Most of my cooking falls into the old-fashioned, comfort food category and therefore is loaded with real ingredients....real butter, real sugar , fresh fruits and vegetables (home-grown when possible) fresh herbs, etc. On any given day I might be feeding one mother, two daughters, ,one dog ,one fat cat, numerous friends , and an occasional neighbor. And now, maybe You!
I love to hear from my readers and comments make my day, so please don't be shy and let me know what you think . I'm very suggestible so if there's a recipe you think I should make, I'll probably do it. And if it sucks, I'll tell everyone you made me do it ,too.
